[ @Skeji: ] Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state and Oyo South Senatorial District candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of Saturday’s election, describing it as credible, peaceful and relatively hitch-free.
He said this during an interview with journalists shortly after casting his vote in company with his wife, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, children and sons-in-law, at Ward 11, Unit 20, Oluyole Community Grammar School, Oluyole Extension, Ibadan.
With the benefit of hindsight, the governor said the election was the best he had witnessed since he joined politics.
In his general assessment of the election, the governor said that the conduct of the election was a marked improvement from the past exercises, apart from reported cases of late arrival of polling materials in few polling units across the state.
The governor said he was particularly impressed by the large turnout of voters, especially youths whom he said had, by their actions on Saturday, demonstrated their resolve to assume leadership positions.
He said: “I’m impressed with the conduct of today’s election which I can confidently say passes the litmus test of freeness, fairness and credibility. I congratulate the people of Oyo State for turning out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.
“The atmosphere in this polling unit is that of conviviality. We are all laughing and smiling at one another. The faces I see here are the faces of people who are happy and satisfied with this election.
“From what I have seen here and the reports I have received so far, the election is hugely successful and credible. The few cases of late arrival of electoral materials were later resolved.
“Not minding whether they are voting for our party or not, the voters here received me and my family warmly and you can see all of us throwing banters. I must tell you, this is another achievement of our administration. I did not hear any case of brigandage or violence so far.
“You will know the type of government in power by the people’s attitudes during elections. Today, generally, the election has been conducted in an atmosphere of peace, which is a thing of joy to me. What this means is that our government has enthroned peace in this state.”
He enjoined the people of the state to maintain the orderliness and peaceful conduct at large.

Hmm its not as easy as he says.

However, Ahmad uploaded a picture of the advertorial on his Twitter handle, portraying it as taken at Buhari’s rally in the state.

[ @awesome007: ] - APC chieftain, Yekini Nabena, has accused the Bayelsa state government of stockpiling arms ahead of the 2109 general elections

- Nabena stated that the arms are being stored in different local governments of the state in preparations of the polls

- Nabena said the alleged arms buildup could be traced particularly in Brass, Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw areas of the state

The deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena has accused the Bayelsa state government of stockpiling arms in different local governments of the state ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Nabena's allegation was contained in a statement sent to Legit.ng on Tuesday, February 19.

According to the APC chieftain, the alleged arms buildup could be traced particularly in Brass, Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw areas of the state.

Part of the statement read: “While it is sad to imagine that a seating governor at the tail of his second tenure has exhausted public acceptance for both himself and his party to the level he has dissolved his entire campaign strategy to propaganda and violence.

“It should be remembered that the high level violence Mr Dickson is banking on is not alien to him. He has, infact, been a direct beneficiary of violence in all his years in politics.

“Stockpiling of arms in an already fragile state like Bayelsa is evil, but for Governor Dickson this is one evil he is ready to subject the Bayelsa people to because of his seemingly infinite political ambitions.

“He became a governor in 2011 by propaganda and violence, in 2015 he forced his reelection by the barrel of a gun, assisted, of course, by some corrupt staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“During that election, both Brass local government area and Southern Ijaw LGA were engulfed in violence. Governor Dickson rewarded violence, which is way anyways, by appointing the key actors of that violence as local government chairmen.

“Dickson is once again employing the strategy of violence by stockpiling arms in various local government areas of the state, importing and sponsoring thugs with state funds to intimidate, kill, harass and oppress the very Bayelsans he claims to govern.”

He also called on the police, the Department for State Security, Civil Defence, the military and the security community in general to critically investigate the alleged stockpiling of arms in Bayelsa state ahead of the elections.

Similarly, the APC senatorial candidate in Osun East senatorial district, Honourable Ajibola Israel Famurewa has alleged threat to the lives of the people of eight villages in Atakumosa East local government of the state.

Fameruwa, a serving member of the House of Representative representing Ijesa South federal constituency, said the thugs planning the violence are loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one Chief Francis Fadahunsi, his opponent in the election.

Famurewa made this known when he led party leaders and other APC candidates to address a press conference on the security challenges of his zone after a meeting with the commissioner of police, Abiodun Ige at the state headquarters in Osogbo, the state capital.

He expressed worries about the influx of thugs into the villages, stating that for over a week, the thugs have been terrorizing people of the areas especially the supporters of APC.

[ @emmanuelrich: ] The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is holding its 84th National Executive Council(NEC) meeting in Abuja.

In attendance are the Presidential Candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, National Chairman Uche Secondus, and other party leaders.

The meeting comes a day after the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus met in Abuja, where the party condemned the postponement of the general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and accused the electoral umpire of colluding with the opposition PDP.

Hours to the commencement of the elections on Saturday, February 16, INEC postponed the Presidential and National Assembly polls to February 23 and the Governorship and Houses of Assembly Elections to March 9, 2019.

The PDP had expressed outrage over the postponement of the elections and accused the ruling APC of an attempt to rig the polls by allegedly asking INEC to stagger the polls. But INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, had ruled out any form of political influence in reaching the decision, saying it was based on the logistical challenges that cropped up in the run-up to the polls.

[ @emmanuelrich: ] National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has said President Muhammadu Buhari was ‘misinterpreted’ over his comments on what awaits those who intend to snatch ballot boxes in the forthcoming elections.

President Buhari at the party’s caucus meeting on Monday, said all those planning to snatch ballot boxes may be doing so at the expense of their lives.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Tinubu said the President’s statement which garnered a lot of reactions, might have been taken out of context.

Tinubu said “The president was just reinforcing the fact that if you are out there snatching ballot boxes, and causing destruction, you are at risk of your own life.”

“It’s okay, emotions are running high these days. Any individual, including myself, can be misinterpreted,” Tinubu added.

“These (interpretation) are not his words. He is a law-abiding person and he understands categorically and clearly what rule of law is and the lives of individual citizens, that he is in that office to protect.”

He said no president will give an order that his own citizens be shot extra-judicially.

The Co-Chair of the APC’s Presidential Campaign Council, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, spoke with journalists at the party’s secretariat in Abuja, here are some other major topics he spoke about

On Election Postponement…
“By law we should continue to energise our people. It depends on our resources. Because the Electoral Act allows us to continue to campaign and ask us to stop campaigning only 24 hours before the actual election. And once INEC changed the election date to Feb. 23, they have given us the opening to campaign and energise our people. If you have a garden and you don’t nourish it with water, the grass will remain dormant. We don’t want our party to remain dormant.
“This is ability of leadership to convert adversity to opportunity and prosperity and that’s it; that’s what we must do.

On Whether Poll Postponement Will Affect Credibility Of INEC…
“It depends on how it is handled and the new process. How the process is managed? You can convert what appears a crisis, a situation of adversity to an opportunity and progress
The INEC, under the law, is empowered to postpone, cancel and do whatever is necessary to ensure free and fair election. No party other INEC has this power. We can express our anger and disappointment, but no party can reverse what has been done. So, we are ready for Feb. 23.

On President Buhari’s Statement That Those Planning To Rig…
“I was in that meeting; the president was just reinforcing the fact that if you you are out there snatching ballot boxes, and causing destruction, you are at risk of your own life.

“Whatever happens to you, no president will give an order that his own citizens be shot summarily, No! No, its okay, emotions are running high these days. Any individual including myself can be misinterpreted.

“Shoot on sight are not his words; he is a law-abiding person and he understands categorically and clearly what the rule of law is and the lives of individual citizens, he knows that he is in that office to protect.

“Now, let me say this: he has been fighting Boko Haram, kidnappers and all that before this election, did you hear him asking them to be shot and executed summarily?

“If he has gone through that in the last five years, please give him the benefit of the doubt”.

President Buhari’s comments at the APC caucus meeting stirred heated arguments across the country, with many raising concerns that it might encourage violence and jungle justice in the coming polls.

According to Nigeria’s electoral act, the snatching of ballot boxes and destruction of electoral materials leads to a 24-months jail term, not a death sentence.

It has been a while people have been taking that risk
What they surely says was that this life is all about risk

[ @emmanuelrich: ] The Independent National Electoral Commission has reconfigured some card readers in Adamawa State following the retrieval of sensitive materials for the general elections.

The sensitive materials had been distributed ahead of the elections which were initially scheduled to hold on February 16.

They have, however, now been deposited at the Central Bank of Nigeria following the postponement of the elections.

Also, in Ekiti State, INEC officials have taken stakeholders to the Central Bank to confirm the state of sensitive materials returned.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state had raised an alarm that the materials may have been tampered with to favour the All Progressives Congress (APC) because according to them, the sensitive materials were returned late.

Consequently, INEC, political parties, heads of security agencies as well as journalists went to the CBN to verify.

The electoral umpire, however, assured people of the state that it remains committed to ensuring a credible exercise next week.

Below are some of the reactions to Ahmad’s post:

@martinsalive: But this is @OfficialPDPNig rally in Taraba, except u have been Atikated too.

@ekesunvictor: Strategically placed the newspaper to crop out the title of the photo, but could not notice that there are flags in the picture.

@ayobhad: Below if you look clearly, you can see Abubakar. How did he miss that also.

@FIOnwuchekwa: The sweet thing about this blunder, is that no Buhari minion can defend this one. The own goal is so glaring ehh.

Ahmad however, later took down the tweet.
