President Muhammadu Buhari has retained the position of minister of petroleum resources which he held during the 2015 administration. The president made this announcement during the swearing-in ceremony which took place on Wednesday, August 21. During the 2015 administration, the president had announced himself as minister of petroleum resources with Ibe Kachikwu serving as minister of state for petroleum resources. With the formation of his new cabinet, the president retained the position while also appointing Timipre Sylva as minister of state for petroleum resources replacing Kachikwu.

Recall that President Buhari informed ministers that Nigerians have great and quick expectations from his administration. Speaking in Abuja at the presidential retreat for the ministers-designate, the president noted that majority of Nigerians are poor and hoping for a better life. Legit.ng gathered that the president said the retreat was the beginning of work for the ministers-designate who are expected to be inaugurated on Wednesday, August 21.

Buhari stressed that government has a responsibility to meet the people’s great needs. He said a monitoring evaluation framework will be put in place to check the performance of the incoming ministers, and that they would be responsible for the implementation of agreed initiatives.
