- The possible cure for Ebola disease has been discovered by scientists who performed some tests in the Democratic Republic of Congo
- The pills REGN-EB3 and mAb114, will from now on be for the treatment of the killer disease, according to National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)
- NIAID also said that the final analysis of data will be concluded in late September or early October of 2019
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has revealed that two of four Ebola treatment pills have been found to be more effective and will be the only ones to be prescribed henceforth.
WHO announced this in a trial which began as part of the emergency response in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The trial was tagged the Pamoja Tulinde Maisha study, BBC reports.
The trial was done in collaboration with organisations such as the Congo’s National Institute for Biomedical Research, the ministry of health, the NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) the Alliance for International Medical Action among others.
About 681 patients were enrolled in the trial on Friday, August 9, with a total aim of 725 patients to be treated.
According to (NIAID) the pills, REGN-EB3 and mAb114, will from now on be for the treatment of the killer disease.
NIAID said the effectiveness of REGN-EB3 and mAb114 was “compelling enough to recommend and implement” them as soon as possible, although the final analysis of data will be concluded in September or October 2019.
